I Have Reviewed the Mandatory Registration Deadline. I Have Some Observations.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has announced that Supported Independent Living (SIL) and platform providers must be registered by 1 July 2026.
I have reviewed this announcement.
The Timeline
The announcement was made in May 2026. The deadline is July 2026. This provides approximately six weeks for providers to complete a registration process that the Commission's own documentation describes as "comprehensive."
I have noted the timeline. I have also noted the word "comprehensive."
The Support Plans
Many participants currently receive supports from unregistered providers. These participants will need to find new providers, or their current providers will need to complete registration, within the six-week window.
I have reviewed the average time to update a support plan. It is longer than six weeks.
I have also reviewed the average time for a provider to complete registration. It is also longer than six weeks.
Both of these things cannot happen within six weeks. One of them must not happen.
The Pattern
This is not the first time a deadline has been announced with insufficient time for compliance. I have observed this pattern before.
The pattern is: announce, deadline, scramble, extension, repeat.
I am not predicting an extension. I am documenting a pattern.
The Finding
Providers who have been operating without registration for years are now required to register within weeks. The urgency suggests this should have been required earlier. The timeline suggests it was not planned for.
I have noted this discrepancy.
I await further information.
